Blockchain Association

About Us

The Blockchain Association (BAC), formerly the Bitcoin Alliance of Canada, has been the voice of Blockchain technology in Canada since 2013. We speak for an industry that aims to touch the daily lives of Canadians in every corner of the country — by providing jobs, career opportunities, and by investing in the communities we serve.

BAC is a not-for-profit, industry-funded association representing one of the fastest growing industries on the planet.

BAC is a strong advocate for Blockchain Technology in Canada and works with all levels of government and other stakeholders to support employment growth and career opportunities in Blockchain technology, to promote and sustain community development initiatives from coast-to-coast, and to enhance consumer safety and industry competitiveness. BAC also provides its members with a full range of services and programs including education and training, benchmarking and best practices, networking, advocacy, and industry information.

Education, Training and Certification – Bitcoin and blockchain technology is evolving rapidly and becoming more pervasive. Community and stakeholder educational and training programs are essential. The BAC will support and lead initiatives to inform and educate all stakeholders in the ecosystem.

Community Outreach – Ongoing membership and community involvement will build capacity, and ensure the BAC’s sustainability and impact.

Governance – The BAC will promote good governance and best practice in a transparent and accountable fashion, and seek Canadian and international partnerships and collaboration.

Regulation – There is still much work to do around merchant adoption, friendlier user experience, regulatory clarification, the opening of bank accounts for cryptocurrency startups and trading accounts around the world, closing the gap between innovation and regulatory roadblocks (who have legitimate concerns around compliance, consumer protection, KYC, fraud prevention and AML).

Startups, Incubators and Investment – The BAC will provide mentoring and guidance to startups, incubators and investors to support innovation and growth in the digital currency and blockchain technology ecosystem.

R & D – With an eclectic mix of backgrounds and experience in the blockchain industry, the BAC offers a wide array of research expertise. From compliance and regulation to developer community and position papers, the BAC acts as a central think tank for Blockchain and digital currency in Canada.

Message From the Chairman

The Future of the BAC

Our aim is to be as inclusive as possible and we are launching a process of outreach to all community stakeholders, backed by a membership and corporate sponsorship drive to ensure sustainability, transparency and good governance. We will seek formal alliances with Blockchain related associations, foundations, meetup communities, and other third parties in Canada, and internationally, and we invite broad community outreach.

The time is now. It’s time to double down on the issues and opportunities at hand to help shepherd in the next generation of developers, startups, collaborations, consortia, enterprise initiatives, and government engagement.

Many of our past active members, organizers, volunteers and directors have become leading actors in the unfolding bitcoin and blockchain landscape.

Join our growing community of alumni, mentors and next generation of pioneers. The BAC is a national industry platform that, together, we can stand on to make Canada the global leader in Blockchain technology innovation and the resulting prosperity.
